Well folk, I HAVE A Tamaskan PUPPY!!!
Thank you Lynn, Jennie and Tumanra for all your hard work. Well can't forget Rann also.
He slept the whole 1 hours journey home. I let him in the back garden to see if he wanted to go toilet. Not as yet.
Had a wonder around the house, found his toys. Had a wee play and a whine and has now kicked my flatmate off his sofa and taken his place. Good Boy!!!
Heres a couple shot of him crashed out next to my flatmate

Well I think I must have the sleepy one of the group. Which I am not complaining about, LOL.
So he decided to not eat so much last night or today, think the excitment is still setting in.
He has met all my family, and very quickly takes to people. Likes to eat people if he can,
But last night, I got him off to sleep (takes seconds, just pick up onto lap), popped to the bathroom and turned off all lights.
Put duvet on sofa, Diesel in his cardboard box, that he could climb out of if he wants. And place him next to me on the sofa. Lights out at just gone mid-night. A couple of chews of my hand and a couple of gentle ssh's and then I am woken by the 7 am alarm for his feeding and toilet. So a big load of praise for not waking me up, some food and a play outside. Come in for a pee (most annoying) and then back to sleep with me on the sofa till 11. Good boy!!!
And now asleep again on my lap.
My own bed tonight tho, as my flatmate is back. AHhh |

So he sleeps allllll night without needing a wee? what time do you give him his last feed? Does he have access to water when you go to bed at midnight?
What am I doing wrong?!!! I just want a nice nights sleep |

Well I feed him his last meal at around 8pm. Lift his water at midnight.
He has no access to water during the night. I am sure if he wanted it he would let me know. He does everything else. LOL
I do ensue he has a good play in the cold, outside for about 20 mins at about 10 pm. Then we move inside and play some more. If he hasnt emptied his bladder, or bowels by then, its back outside for more play with the shadows. Exciting scary things they are.
I wish you a restful night. You will get one soon.
Does anyone else find their pup particularly vocal. The wailing banshee comparison is great, along with howler monkey, but I also get gremlin sounds when he is eating and playing. He has a proper bark and growl already. He thought he could get all dominant over my flatmates 4 year old. He is like Finley, (Jens boy) and great with dogs. |

Hi Nick
Good tip about the water , might give that a go with Onai as he wees for England !
Onai does make funny noises when he gets frustrated with his toys but no barking yet. I think he is itimidated by Zeta who as an Estrela has one of the loudest barks in the canine world!
Glad to hear you and Diesel and getting on so well and hope you get her used to bedroom so you can sleep in your own bed tonight! _________________ Annette and Gary |

Thanks hearn188
Aren't those noises just too cute. Sometimes he sounds like he is whining but normally its a little gremlin type grumble.
I must say I am very impressed with his sleeping. Being the only pet in the house, he hasn't been left alone for more than 10 mins. He has a little moan at first then quietens down. Going to leave him so I can shower but Ill do this during his after lunch sleepy time.
I had a night in my own bed last night. I have never fallen to sleep so fast. And he was absolutely fine with my flatmate all night. Not a whimper.
Flat mate left for work at about 645, I join puppy at 7 for another hour of sleep. He truly does seam to understand that night time is for long sleeps.
I am also impressed with his toilet training. Had quite a few accident, but he seams to know that he should be heading outside. The thing is, he gives about 1 sec warning when having a pee, but does a funny dance like he is trying to get away from his bottom before he has a poo. Its hilarious and very hard to miss. But he is already heading for the back door to do this, and finding out his first time outdoors was when he got back home with us is even more amazing. I pressume Lynn had been training this skill. But it appears we have some very clever puppies.
Does anyone else have just the one Tamaskan as a pet? If so how are you finding leaving the dog / pup on their own at night. I will be getting a cat soonish (about 3 months) mainly to control mice. We have a bad mouse problem down my road, and as soon as dogs appear the neighbors cats vacate the back garden and the mouse attack starts. Already seen 2 in the garden. Diesel finds them most curious. |

Hey guys.
Karen have you his older brother? From a different dad tho I presume?
He really is settling in now. Can leave him for upto an hour in the living room and get on with things in the house. No real whining or fuss. Great.
He has taken a BIG disliking to Coca Cola. No he hasn't been drinking it, but anything with it in, be it a bottle or glass gets the bark and growl treatment. Put the bottle closer to him and he backs off whilst barking, but maintaining his wagging tail. Funny little bugger. Off to buy him some more chewy toys in abit.
Me and Diesel have an audience every morning as the neighbors watch me trying to stop him from eating everything in the garden. The two little kids either side find it hilarious when I can't catch him before he goes under his little bush to hide from me. That bush is getting fenced off tomorrow. HEHE.
Heres some more pictures of my little angel.

Well I just left him in his puppy proof living room, alone in the house for the first time for 2 hours.
I had no choice as I had to get my medication from the Drs. What a good boy he is.
I stood by the front door for about 10 mins and no whining. Got back to find a really happy to see me puppy, nothing destroyed (he has access to sofas, furniture, etc) and no accidents. So I had to give him a tiny bit of ham as a treat and two new Kong toys.
I am really annoyed at all these so called puppy proof toys. I have had to bin all the original ones as he just rips them to shreads and tries to eat. The kongs however are great. Got him a little rubber kong chew that looks like a 3d x if you can imagine. Bounces in all weird directions, he loves it. And a Kong Shnugga, which he will not leave alone. Lets hope that toy lasts.
Couple more days of night time company, then its on his own. With regular checks of course. |

Well what can I say today apart from what a good boy he has been!!! (Apart from finally putting the killing bite onto one of my last two fuchsias)
He got left for a while again while I went to get a collar his size and a bite for lunch with me ma. Again, no mess or destruction on my return. Were gone for about another 2 hours.
Moving him out to the kitchen now tho for his quite 'Alone' time. Managed to Use his crate as a barrier and in the summer he will have a straight run to the outside.
But best of all we have the toilet training sussed. I realised that outside was just too much of a distraction for him, he would tell me he wants to go, then I put him out and a twig pokes him on the bum and thats it, hes off, forgets he needs a pee. So in he comes then he pees. So I managed to persuade him that the puppy pads are for toilet and not for eating and he has taken to it no probs.
He trots off to back door, does his business, and heres the best part, if he does a poo, he lifts one side of the pad to cover it. LOL. Then he gives a bark to let me know.
Anyway, I am sure you don't really want to know the ins and outs of his 'movements', lol.
Oh, and he is still sleeping thru. He has full walk of the lounge / kitchen and uses the pads and there is not a peep.
Heres some more pics,

Thought I would share some more pictures. Can you tell I am a proud father, LOL.
He has been so so good that I am just waiting for the day to find my entire 3 piece suite destroyed, it is inevitable.
He has spent the last two nights with a mate in the living room. With Diesels nature I was expectin my mate to have some restless nights. NOPE. Diesel don't care. If there is someone there, he will sleep! Another night right thro until I get up at 7.
Here's some more pics mainly taken after he had a really manic session of 20 minutes bounding up and down the hallway at top speed, non stop.

Lets hope this well help ease those that haven't got their puppy yet.
Heres a video of him playing with his Babbleball in the back garden. These things are really annoying, I can only stand about a minute of play with this. LOL

He had a strange crooked ear for a couple of days, but that sorted it self out. Funny how dogs grow all out of proportion. |

That's so funny Nick, I am so pleased that you are suffering with babble-mania too! It's really annoying I know but it looks like Diesel looks it as much as Tala does!
He is so cute, he looks like a little mogwai, bet he has his gremlin moments too!!
I played the video and Tala is cocking her little head when she hears Diesel growling and the babble-ball, I think you had the right idea! |

"mogwai", should I read that like I would say it in Cantonese? Because that's how I'm reading it. lol. it translates to something like "little monster". Or is this some kind of British english term that I don't know of because I'm American? haha.
Yes, that babble ball is EXTREMELY annoying. Seeing Diesel and Tala play with it was very cute, but yea..I think 1 minute is about the most I can stand of it as well. XD _________________ ~Arie

"Mogwai" is actually from the movie "Gremlins". I haven't seen that movie in ages. The mogwai turned into a gremlin when it was exposed to light, water or fed after midnight. It was an '80s movie if I recall right. And god those things were little devils. Creepy looking. _________________ "Don't feel bad, It could be worse. You could be a worm.
