I am seriously considering starting dog scooter with my lab (not traditional I know but he'd love it! Laughing ). I really don't know much about it, I have a book ordered which I'm hoping will enligten me. For now though, can someone advise me how best to start teaching directions (gee, haw)? This dog is very smart and picks things up very easily so I'm hoping it won't be too hard Laughing

Generally you would start this as early as possible but the way to go is to have the dog walking/pulling infront of you on long lead. Find somewhere where there will be lots of turns like a forest or something. When you want to go left give the command for the left turn clearly and guide the dog to the left repeating the command until you are going straight and then just say something like hike on. Keep turning left as many times as you can for as long as it takes over a few days or so. Once the dog starts to turn to the left when you give the command you can then start the same practice for the right turn. Eventually the dog will respond as soon as you give the command. You can also teach the dog to stand still while on the harness in front of you. Stop Whoa and stand still. Move forward. Hike or hike on. It may take some time but you will need to be patient. Dont try to teach both left and right at the same time or confusion will be inevitable.

Hi,
We just brought our first Tamaskan home the other day, and I think it'd be great fun to teach them to pull. What is the title of the book you found? Can others suggest similar resources?
How about harnesses?
Thanks!
Tracy
