We have far too much rambling going on and I for one, am guilty of high-jacking other people's threads and making it a ramble thread...SORRY!

LoL. Poor dog. I remember when I was young (please don't throw anything at me for this) I would trim my cats' whiskers. I got my hair cut. And my dad 'trimmed his whiskers' as he would say. It seemed only natural to my young mind (and by young I mean very young) that the cats should also be trimmed. Those poor kitties. How they suffered.

Haha my brother did the same thing to our cats and then he took one of those liquid gluesticks and tried to glue him to the wall.

My brother-in-law used to catch grasshoppers and cricket so that he could tape them to the wall of his house...and see how long they lived while taped to a wall.

There must be something about a cat's whiskers.
I cut them off the family cat Sal as a youngster (me not the cat!) while she was asleep. Thinking about it she must have been really 'dead to the world', not much escapes a cat's attention however deeply asleep they appear to be.
Surprisingly it did not get noticed by my parents until about a month or so later. By which time I'd forgotten it too. It's a good thing they grew back...... eventually. Weird really, I was never usually cruel.

As yet it hasn't occurred to my son to start snipping, but I think it may do looking at how common it seems to happen! He can be quite a devil.

Mind you the dog on the photo must also have been near-comatose. With all the lines it looks like the dog was being marked up for severe plastic surgery.

I'm really feeling the Sunday-night blues.

We've just returned from St Annes (between Blackpool and Lytham, on the North-west coast of England), the sun was out, the tide was out and everywhere, everywhere, everywhere were people out playing with their dogs - including a family with about four huskies of various ages.

We had a nice family day-out, but I couldn't help feeling distinctly dog-less.

I understand the feeling completly. I was watching an episode of John and Kate plus 8 and it was the one where they went and picked out puppies. I just about died. What hurts more is that I won't be able to get a dog for several years. I am consoling my self by telling myself as soon as I get an apartment I will by myself a little lilac point siamese.

My sister's family is looking to adopt a labrador, but our meet and greet scheduled for today through the local lab rescue group was canceled due to the rain and freezing weather.

It's been raining these past few days and while it's good for the dying grass (and dry lake), it's quite cold - about 40F. That's pretty cold considering we had lovely 75-80F weather just the day before the gloomy days. XD

There have been a lot of days lately where I would have killed for 40F weather. It was up to 50-something here today. Its supposed to stay nice until the weekend I hear. Oooh! The forecast says 65F tomorrow. Maybe I'll go outside. LoL. Though the days will be mostly cloudy until next week when the weather drops again. *Pout* I wish we could all just live in domes. No more cold weather unless you want to go outside the dome.

New topic: multiple puppies...

So the topic of getting 2 puppies (for one person, I'm assuming) sprouted in one of the "Welcome" threads.

Anyway, I entertained the thought of getting one puppy, giving it a few months' time to have him/her housebroken, know a few basic commands, and then add a second puppy.

After a little while, I couldn't plan ahead anymore because of all the chaos that would ensue (not to mention the $$$!) if it were just me taking care of two rambunctious, spunky, wild, large breed puppies! LOL! I would need a very good paying job for one, and then I'd also need all the time that I would be spending at work (~10hours) to care for the pups. Do you see the wrinkles forming on my forehead (and brain)? Haha.

My solution: one puppy at a time.

I got Riker and Zuul within 2 or 3 weeks of each other and it was and still is a nightmare dealing with two very naughty puppy's indeed.
I don't think I will ever have two pups together again.

I love to have two pups at the same time... But when there is 3 months or so between them it is harder work than when they are the same age.

Number one as house trained and slept trough the night when the other came and everything started over again... Haha! Still no good night rest!
(Must say that the older pup had been very sick and got an operation to safe his life, that's why he couldn't sleep trough the night )
but as a pup, 3 months difference in age is huge! So, I had two pups in different stages of personal development.
By now you don't really notice it anymore (8 and 11 months)

Maybe there are 2 new pups coming next year, and I would absolutely have them together again!

But there is a difference... I have them all together, the other dogs "help out" by telling them the rules, I have the time and patience to train them and it is better for the sport-team to have them training together
If I would have a pup, just for myself as a family dog, it would probably be just 1 pup and another one 2 years later. Think that is the ideal age to add a second pup.

The whole forum (and I suspect quite a few other forums) were down for a few hours, I'm pretty sure for everybody. It was going again last night...

We need a Plan B for when the forum goes down! Going 'cold turkey' without warning isn't healthy for TamAddicts!

Want to set up a private page on the TDR website for chatbox purposes? lol. That's the only thing I can think of, anyway...unless anyone wants to setup another forum as backup.

Here's another random bout: FUR!

I took my sister's dog, Abby, to the groomer's yesterday because 1) I was too lazy to give the dog a bath and 2) I figure Abby could use the experience. It cost $25 for a bath, brush, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, brushing teeth and nail trimming/filing. Overall, I'd say it was a good deal! Anyway, I assume they didn't brush her because when I went to pick her up, I ran my hand through her damp fur (they only towel dried her, I was told.) and came out with handfuls of fur - just like when I dropped her off. So, I went home and brushed her with a kong zoom groom. I swear, I now have enough fur to make a rug for the living room! I brushed her again a few minutes ago (ok, 30 minutes ago - clean up.) because I could get half a handful of fur off of her after running my hand from her head to rear...only to add more fur to my collection in the Dyson's dust collection bin! (It was filled to the max capacity last night in fur - could be easily compressed - lots of air in there.) Earlier I had about half the bin filled with fur.

So those with Tamaskans...do y'all have enough fur to make carpet for a 2000 sq ft home? Haha.

Well...there isn't that much fur on my tamaskans....
The rest of them on the other hand I can easily vacuum 3 times a day.
Some of the fur I gather in a basket that hangs outside, all the nesting birds love ti use it
