We are just about to go to a Rally-O workshop tonight to get Tala back into the swing of things!
Does anyone else take part in this new activity? Don't know much about it yet, but hopefully will be enlightened later on! _________________ You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, 'Wow, you're right! I never would've thought of that!' |

Yep I do that whit Bine(Bobbi doesn't do it because then he is afraid he get tired )
It is a track with different kinds of exercises like walking backwards or a spiral walk etc etc. Bine likes it |

Well that was a nice gentle way to ease us back into things!
So it is like obedience, but you follow a course with different instructions at each point, which you have to follow e.g 1. Halt and Sit, walk on to next sign 2. Sit, down, sit etc.
The spiral is an interesting one!! _________________ You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, 'Wow, you're right! I never would've thought of that!' |

yes but you have many exercises so every track is different. The thing that Bine likes most about it is that it isn't as strict as normal obedience and if you are further than they go without a belt.
The big difference is that with Rally-O you may encourage your dog through talking, knocking on the leg, clap in the hands and give encouraging signals and you may repeat a command several times as long if you don't tough the dog. The goal is a happy combination that does a track full of energy. |

What is this interesting sounding spiral you speak of? Haha. I'm curious. _________________ ~Arie

I looked into Rally-O last year here in the States. It looks like it would be very fun for both the dog and trainer. Unfortunatly in the USA your dog must be registered with the American Kennel Club or possibly the UKC. Needless to say I could not find anything in my area that would accept our wonderful Tamaskans. _________________ John

Are there other possibility's? Wow...
We have that here in the NL, clubs who only allow purebred pedigree dogs, but most clubs allow all dogs. Would be really nuts if they wouldn't allow mutts, because the majority of the dogs kept by people don't have pedigree or just are mutts. Absurd that you wouldn't be able to train them at a club! _________________

Bet there are lots of weird dog laws for clubs. A couple of months ago I went to watch husky racing. Everyone was very friendly, but I was told that I would'nt be able to race Dash as she was'nt a purebred husky unless she was neutered and I quote the guy said "we don't want anymore from that line."
Was a little put out to say the least!!!!!
Going to look into those classes looks like fun. |

I think the whole point is to make it a more event for both the owner and the dog, not as strict as pure obedience.
Like mentioned previously, you can talk to your dog as much as you want and encourage them.
Here's one link I found

Yes that is it exactly. You both can have more fun than with pure obedience |

I heard the rules have changed a bit.
You can't say just anything anymore to your dog. _________________
