Hey guys,
Well me and Diesel and my one 2 one trainer seam to be doing well with our training. He very quickly got the basics, sit, stay, come, wait, down, paw, leave it, drop it, upstairs, downstairs, kitchen, living room, crate and settle.
All of these he does in the house and on lead no problems at all.
He is great at the front door when I am doing the bins or if someone comes to call. He sits and waits patiently by the bottom step before being invited to say hi.
But its when he is off lead he seams to loose all respect for me. Nothing will motivate him to do what I want - if there is any distractiion. If I take him out to a wood or in the middle of the night we have no problems. He listens, comes on command and whistle. etc.
But he still wants to see every dog within smelling distance and has to get there at top notch speed scaring the **** out of whom ever he is running upto. And will do anything that the other dog owner will ask of him, but will not even look at me even if I wave a fresh cut steak infront of him. Most annoying.
Now I know alot of this is down to testosterone and age but I also know it will not sort its self out.
Oh, heres another example of his naughty ness. We took him on quite along walk the ends in a lovely large fenced in field with the only entrance / exit is a cattle grid. This is a very public area and never normally has live stock on it. Well we get up there and it is covered in sheep crap. We walk around for a bit and I decide not to let him off. He is showing no interest in the sheep pooh, he knows not to. But my friend persuads me to let him off as we will both play with him and keep his attention. NOPE. As soon as off lead he off. Stops about 10 ft infront and picks up a pile of crap and starts munching.
Now I know not to chase. I gave a couple of firm no's, leave its and drop its, then walk off, run off and ignore him. Well we got over the cattle grid and waited out of view to see when he would come back. There really is no point in chasing him as we know this just escalates matters. And guess what he didn't come back. So we go to see what he is upto and he is doing his best at clearing the field of pooh. NASTY. Eventually after about 30 mins of constant eating he was sick and had enough and returned.
So, what i would like is your views, I know will be limited, of this training school

My previous school was crap and held like a sixth form lesson. All sit back. listen and take notes to use in own time. Not good.
We literally have NO training in my local area of Brighton. Or they are all held in tiny halls (not really where I walk my dog is a small hall). Unbelievable for a big city like Brighton. This place is a 50 mile round trip for me, and I have no car, so I hope they will do a trial lesson as I will have to rely on transport from friends etc.
