Hello everyone
My husband and I have been looking into getting a companion for our 18month Great Dane. I was browsing dog breeds and somehow stumbled upon the Tamaskan. I must say, from everything that I have read it sounds like a phenomenal breed! I'm looking for a dog breed that is very responsive, very temperamental, and something that's important to me - very aware of pack order. And it seems like this breed has all of it Not too mention they are a gorgeous breed!
I just want to make sure that our life style would be not only suitable, but comfortable for one. We travel a lot, and my beautiful dane always comes with us! We bought a big vehicle just for the transportation of large pets lol. She has driven thousands of miles, stayed in numerous hotels, and been to several dog events (I don't show her, I just love dogs She gets kenneled about once a year, because of that she's always updated on all vaccinations. I'm a firm believer of spaying/neutering your dog if you don't have intentions to breed them (which i don't). We live in a large house in the suburbs with two two acre dog parks, and take frequent weekend camping trips. We don't have kids at the moment, but plan too. We have a cat who is best friends with the dog, lol it's pretty darn funny. I've managed to instill that the cat is above the dog pack order wise (there's nothing quite so funny as watching the cat boot the dog from her food bowl).
So i was just wondering if you guys think that I one would be able to live happily with us. I want a new addition to the family, not just getting a dog because the breed 'looks cool', if you know what I mean.
And assuming that one would be able to join us happily, when would one be available? I have no problems making a road trip to pick one up lol, or if it's easier on the pup flying it.
If you could please impart your wisdom that would be wonderful
Thank you for all of your time i know this wasn't a short post lol

Two other breeders in the USA are planning litters for this summer and fall. I will be taking a break until fall 2010 as we are looking for more dogs do bring into our Kennel. This means new lines for us to in the furure with more options.
Keep looking around the site and you will find some very nice pictures of the tamaskans here in the states and overseas.
There are many wonderful people on here and are loads of help for someone new getting into the breed.

My hubbie, John, had mentioned that I'm from DE, too. I hope to take a road trip to visit my parents soon and thought about taking one of my Tams with me. Perhaps you could meet one then? Let me know...my boy, Blaze is my traveler and does better on car trips. He sits and listens to music with the seat belt on...lol. He thinks he's human!
hope to talk soon,
