|
|
Well, I have already made a few posts in the forum, but I thought I'd take the moment to officially introduce myself. My name is Brynne, I'm from a very rural part of BC. Which leads me to my first question, are there any Tamaskan dogs in Canada?
I am 20 years old, and I grew up loving and living with animals of all sorts. My family always had dogs, and I loved training them (obedience, agility, some dogsledding), as well as all the various horses I have owned, loved, and worked with. Last year I got "my" first dog, Jasper - a Rough Collie. What a fantastic companion!
Next year I will be taking a professional dog training program, as I would like to make working with dogs my career and life path.
In a year or two I will be looking for a second companion and friend for Jasper, and I have been very drawn to the Tamaskan breed. I believe in thorough research so I am starting now, to fully understand the breed and have a good idea of where I want to get a puppy from when the time comes.
I am already excited!
I've been browsing the forum here extensively. Thanks everyone for all the pictures, great information and discussions.
See you all around!

Hello and welcome! Your collie is beautiful! unfortunatly I don't think there are any breeders in Canada but some of the breeders in the Uk, Alba and Blustag, are licensed to send there puppies to other countries. Im not sure if any of the other breeders are licensed for it. _________________ -Michelle

Thank you all for the welcomes!
Im pretty sure that it isn't a big deal importing dogs from the USA into Canada, as another option. At least this is what I have gathered...anyone know differently? |

Hi Brynne and welcome to the forum. BC is a beautiful province. All my family live over there some in BC and some in Alberta next door along with other provinces. You can visit my website at Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | I have been exporting dogs for over 30 years and have had several enquires from Canada this last few weeks. There are no breeders over there but hopefully there will be some pups in the coming months. One dosnt need to have a licence to export, anyone can do it if they have the knowledge. |

Hello Brynne and welcome. Jasper looks lovely, the rough collie make wonderful companions,,and they have an uncanny sixth sence. I bred and showed collies for 26 years, and also competed in obedience competion with them, more recent i became smitten with Rhanna my blue merle smooth collie which was bred from some famous rough coated ble merle lines. Now we only have one rough collie bitch left Alice, and Rann the black grey tamaskan. who gets on so well with Alice and she with him. they have a bond together that i have never seen before with any dogs that i have ever owned. So welcome and i would be pleased to answer any questions . _________________ softly softly we tread the same path.....the meeting of minds. |

Torriarno - so glad to have a fellow collie lover on here as well! I know what you mean about the sixth sense. Jasper sometimes seems very human, as well. That's nice to hear that your Collie and Tamaskan get along so well. Jasper pretty much loves every other dog, so I'm sure when #2 comes along he will be nothing but pleased. |

Sounds like that Jasper will get along just fine with a tamaskan, they will play and explore together, and i reckon that they will bond very well.
In england the collies coat can grow long,,,,,if jasper growes a long coat then teach the tamaskan the word no or leave if he wants to pull on jaspers coat, this can apply to any breed of dog that a person decides to mix with there collies as the long coat on a collie can be rather inviting...but it can have its advantages too as my alice can run away when being naughty and ran the tam will go and fetch her by keeping her where he catches her by holding on to her coat until i catch up with them...really funny to watch. and that is all you need to look out for,as they will get on really well....both breeds are uncanny and this will reflect in their friendship....the collie will love the tamto bits,...and the tam will look out for the coliie as part of his clan and you too.
So if yo are considering a tamaskan then just enjoy the feeling of looking forward to getting one. You have the collie which ...can be very like lassie in the film. they know you are on your way back home long before you do ha ha, the collie has his own unique way of welcoming you home...but the tamaskan welcome...well thats really something...particulary when you wake up in the morning with a collie and tam lying ON you ha ha this greeting is rather special.....ENJOY _________________ softly softly we tread the same path.....the meeting of minds. |

Hello!
Seems there is more than one potential enthusiast from BC. I met John (Tarheel) via email today. We're on Vancouver Island. We love our white german shepherds, but are interested in adding another dog to own us.
I haven't much time to post right now but look forward to learning more. |
