What is the Aatu Tamaskan?
At this moment in time the Aatu Tamaskan is two breeders in America who wished to seperate from the TDR with their four Tamaskan Dogs and introduce more Utonagan and Northern Inuit to the lines of their dogs without TDR approval.
Why did they wish to seperate?
It is unclear what their real reason for seperating is, although we believe it to be purely because of personalty clashes.
Will the TDR register Aatu Tamaskan?
No, these dogs will not be registered with the TDR, as we cannot guarantee health tests or DNA profiling for any of these dogs once the breeders leave the TDR.
If I buy an Aatu Tamaskan can I still take part in shows and events?
No, sadly events and online shows are for TDR registered Tamaskan only. Although we would be happy for you could come along and watch
I have read on a Aatu Tamaskan breeders website that the TDR have unethical practices, is this true?
No, this is not true. the TDR has been around for a long time, they have set up all the health testing for hips, eyes, liver shunt, elbows etc
they also introduced DNA profiling and microchipping to ensure that hip and eye tests cannot be falsified.
They have the welfare of the Tamaskan at the top of their list of priorities. The TDR set up the accredited breeder scheme to encourage breeders to better themselves and gives them support and advice to help them become Gold Members.
We set up the Tamaskan Health Database to educate the public about the health issues in the breed.
We are always open and honest about all health issues within the breed.
Many rumours are being spread by certain individuals to encourage people away from the Tamaskan Dog Register and towards the Aatu. We encourage everyone to do their research and use this forum to make up their own minds.
What should we tell people that are interesting in buying a Tamaskan or an Aatu?
You should point them in the direction of the Tamaskan Dog Register or The National Tamaskan Club of America, you can also point them to this forum for information and help.
