So, Freyja's puppy freak outs now consist of her doing 180 degree spins. It's really funny and I should try getting it on camera. Anyone else's Tam do this? She does a play bow, and then all of a sudden spins in one motion to 180 degrees. Usually she does more than one at a time.

Another thing she has started doing is jumping with little or no effort. It will appear that she's just sitting on the ground and if you blink she'll be up on the couch or bed. (If you know the the movie "Dune" I would liken it to the 'wyrding way'--haha!) Maybe it's a hop. Her legs just don't extend--it's the funniest thing.

Yep, Tala frequently jumps and spins! Normally if she is excited out on a walk, some of our friends have suggested we change her name to Zebedee!

She also does a fantastic impression of a meerkat, she stands up on two legs to get a better view of things!

Yes I call it the Bucking Bronko spin jump. Diesel does this to smack Banjo in the head with his back end. Sends Banjo flying. I think its a vain attempt to launch a domineering attack as Diesel will often end up straddling Banjo. Needless to say Banjo doesn't like this sneeky move.

He also does it when playing with his Kong Wubba toys. Sign of fun and games I think.

haha! yeah--Freyja is certainly silly when she does this. It's neat to hear that certain behaviors are "Tam" (my Aussie x Lab doens't do this--he has his own set of goofy things that he does)

I have another question specifically about Tam behavior:

So we walk both our dogs together, my husband and I taking one dog each. If we pass a dog on our walk, either tied up, behind a fence, or passing in the opposite direction Freyja really wants to see the other dog. Normal, right? Sure.

Well, if Freyja doesn't get to say hello to the other dog she gets upset. (hello meaning sniffing, contact, etc.) Freyja becomes vocal (sounding quite insane) and pulls like mad, jumps, etc. It's the vocal part that is alarming to other people. Ben and I both know that she is a sweetheart and that she loves other dogs...but other owners have practically dragged their dogs away from her when they see this behavior.

I should probably mention that Freyja always puts her paws on the other dog's back when she does get to say hello. (in a playful manner--not humping). She is certainly an alpha type...but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this behavior and if anyone knows if this is typical across the board or if this truly is an alpha behavior (or maybe in-tact female behavior). She is 9 months old, but has not had her first heat yet.

Thanks for your thoughts. We've tried our best with "leave it" while passing, or having her sit on the approach of another dog. She still insists on flipping out. Crazy puppy stuff!

Tala also loves to say hello to every dog we see and they are not always as friendly.

We have had a couple of incidents recently where she has gone to say hello and the other dogs have been reactive, since then I am not allowing her to stop and see every dog we pass on our walks. She is not particularly happy about this new rule and if we don't stop she will have a grumble as we walk by!

I of course recognise this noise as the one she generally makes when she is being stopped from doing something she wants to do, but now you have mentioned this people who don't know her could mistake this as a growl, but we have never had any issues. People just want to stop and find out more about her and the breed.

Since Freyja is still a puppy we like to encourage her meeting other dogs still. Her "noise" sounds more like a coyote flipping out: high pitched barks and yelps. Like you, we know she's just complaining--but other people are a little unnerved.
I actually tried to explain it to a woman this past weekend. She really must not have believed me, as she started to run once her and her dog were past.
Silly people! She's just a puppy (a great big 75 pound puppy) Laughing
Oh well, guess you can't make friends with everyone.
Most people, however, adore her and ask tons of questions.

Loo still spazes-out...she'll toss a toy in the air, then jump up for it, look at the beagles to see if either are interested in playing and if there are no takers...she'll do it again....normally, if one of the beagles doesn't start to play, she'll nip one of their back legs or butts to get them going and jump back, wait and do it again until one relents....

Tundra does the same sort of thing by playing catch with herself. She will accidently drop it and see if the other ones want to try and take it away from her. Nomally she gets Kana to play and once two of them start they all jump in for the fun.

I have one that loves to play with his Kong. He will throw it up in the air and catch it himself. He also throws it to me and we play throw back and forth. I have never seen anything like it. The most throw back and forths I counted were six Laughing without it hitting the floor. I wish I had it on video.

Diesel is the master of football and throwing the ball back after catch, and Banjo now also does this. Its great and nothing I have EVER seen in any breed before.

Banjo actual plays by lying in bed and throwing the ball against the wall to catch it in his mouth.

Diesel has always had spaz attacks when not being allowed to say hi to whatever he feels he needs to say hi to. This is all young puppy stuff and I expect him to be doing this for at least another year. And he never gets away with it, he is just persistent.

Yes, I will try my best to get a camera in my hands again. Let alone getting it recording whilst they are playing. As soon as the cam comes out the little Divas in the show and they get all posy. LOL.

Funny thing is Diesel will throw the ball at Banjo expecting him to throw it back, but the grumpy old bugger that he is just runs off to his bed with the ball and then growls at Diesel if he goes near. Bit naughty but equally funny. Needless to say I do not accept ANY type of growl from Either dog. Short sharpe virbal reprimand issued. Play resumed.

Oh and on the fear from other owners, Try having a big, boisterous black Tamaskan like Diesel. Not only do owners crap themselves but their dogs normally also. He is such a happy dog and I am starting to get annoyed by all the owners who are indirectly making their dogs attack Diesel through fear.

There is a lady who has 4 dobermans and 4 rottys down our local park. That pack normally gets people standing still in their tracks, but like some of you, me Diesel and Banjo get people legging it back the other way to completely avoid us. And this is with them being the best behaved dogs you have seen. Slack lead heal walking. Madness.

Well anytime you want another catch up, just let us know! I know a certain little lady who isn't scared of anything!

Freyja does this too!!! Just like mom Smile
Fenris is always suckered into play with her--he loves playing. In fact if they're awake--they're playing (or eating--haha!)

On another note--we've given up the Gentle Leader Head Collar for a Gentle Leader Harness. Freyja was beside herself on the walk today. She really hated the head collar--always rubbing her face between our legs. We'd been using the head collar since obedience training this past summer--and she never "got used to it" like the video said. I attribute that to her love of pulling (as a good sled dog should, right?) and being a dominant dog. Every time we put on the head collar her ears would go back--it was obvious she wasn't happy. She even had a stripe worn into her face where the headcollar wore away the tips of her fur. Sad Today, though, her and Fenris were so happy with their new hardware that they had a little play bought during the walk -- cute but not acceptable. My arm sockets need to stay in place kids Smile

Freyja did get to meet a HUGE German Shepherd yesterday. Like always: paws up on the back of the other dog right away. The meeting went well--both dogs were smiling at the end Smile

We use a harness on Tala but it connects at the front rather than the back, which means it is much easier to control and stop pulling, quite like a horse's bridle! Much easier to make them turn and stop!

Yes, this looks similar to the harness we now have for both of our dogs. The leash attaches to the front on the chest portion of the strap. Much better. Smile
