eek!! sorry...I love that show. I miss watching it really early in the morning. It's sad, because I never got to watch all of the last episode....my mom always woke up and told me to go to sleep....when there was only, like 10-15 minutes left to the show. I'm going to need to look on Youtube sometime to watch it, I guess.... |

@Darazan
I don't think you'll find the series on youtube since it's such an old series. But if you're willing to watch the fansubbed versions of Wolf's Rain, google "Wolf's Rain online" and you'll be able to find some websites that are streaming the entire show. Utilize those search skills! _________________ ~Arie

I'll have to ask Scott if he's seen it... he's very much into anime, and he has quite the collection, but I know that's not part of it. _________________ Chandres |

hmm...that sounds like a good idea. And I don't mind fansubbing, because they're usually pretty decently accurate...sometimes better than the corporate subtitling! |

Actually, I have heard that some corporations ask their preferred fansub teams for the scripts of the series... D: Shocking, ain't it. Haha. _________________ ~Arie

I never understood the ending (still don't)...so are they implying Paradise is Heaven and in order to reach it, they must die? Or is Paradise the cycle of death and rebirth and not an actual place?
About the pic of Kiba: HAHAHAHAHA! I would have done the same. XD _________________ ~Arie

It was really great!!! |
I think the whole premise of the show was that people were living in a post-apocalyptic world where wolves have been extinct for 200 years or so. Except they weren't. They had learned to take on human form (a twist on werewolf stories maybe?) to hide their presence from humans who I think believed that they were the cause of the the apocalypse or were going to cause another. Only the wolves know the way to Paradise and a pack of four wolves (Kiba, Tsume, Toboe and Hige, joined by a half wolf Blue about half way through the series) try to find their way to Paradise with Cheza, the Flower Maiden created out of lunar flowers. Kiba and Cheza have a special connection (though she is loved by all wolves) and he seems to be the only who always believes whole heartedly in Cheza and Paradise. At the time of the anime people live in domed cities and the world outside is a frozen, barren waste. Each of the cities is ruled by a Noble who seem to live only for their own gain and desires. One of these Nobles wants to force Paradise to open for himself and towards the end it seems that he succeeds. Each of the wolves sacrifices himself to save Cheza and Paradise but each fail. In the end they all die and the very end of the very last episode is of them passing one another on a rainy street in what appears to be our current time and world. Personally I think is one of the best series and I always feel so sad at the end. Plus I think Kiba's wolf form looks kinda like my husky mix _________________ "Don't feel bad, It could be worse. Oh gosh! I loved that series. I'm not a anime afficienado, but the really good ones I think are way cool. Wolf's Rain I actually own!
I live in a sorority (why I can't have a puppy just yet ) and last year I decided to get a plant for companionship. It was a little pink flowering thing and I named it Toboe. Sadly, I released my Toboe into the backyard when I went back to my hometown for summer and it disappeared. Mysterious since it was planted, but kind of ironic when you look at the TV show. lol.
What kind of flowers were the Wolf's Rain ones based on? Do ya'll know? |

I want to say it's a variation of lily, but heck, I know next to nothing about plants so don't take my word for it. lol!
and about the case of the disappearing plant - weird. XD _________________ ~Arie

I watched it. It made me cry when they all died. It's one of the few anime I've seen that doesn't have a happy ending. _________________ FutureOwnerOfATamaskan

The "epilogue" from the ending credits on episode 30 had me a little confused though...so, (spoiler ahead, highlight to read - sorry that I had to put it in hard to read white font.)
Did they all reach paradise in that is a new world where wolves don't exist? 'cause you see them pass each other (and they all look alive and well), but they don't acknowledge each other as if they don't know each other...but then again, you only see the wolves. Cheza, Cher, Hubb and Quentin (the humans/non-wolves) are not seen...so did they die?
Oh yes, and Karen: were you able to watch the series? _________________ ~Arie

Well, I've seen the whole series through more than once (in subbed Japanese though, so I don't know if there are any minor difference with what you saw).
Here are my thoughts on what you said:
As I understand it, Cher, Hubb and Quent (?) are killed off permanently before the end, I suspect along with Blue, based on what she said about being unable to reach paradise due to her mixed heritage.
Cher is most likely alive, as I believe the idea that Kiba is searching for her, as it ends with him spotting a lunar flower in a puddle, and bits of the initial episode opening sequence are set after the end (Cher is behind that spider's web, and the wolves don't appear to know each other as in at the end...).
I gather that the wolves (and Cheza (?)) do indeed reach a new world/paradise, but with the implication of it being poisoned (for lack of a better world) at creation by Darcia's eye, (his eye is left when he is incinerated)...
Of course all of that is open for viewer interpretation...
I'm don't really have any ideas about why they don't know each other at the end, I suppose you could say that they have new lives (ones they actually wanted).
That's all my opinion though...
It's a great series though, one of the best Anime's I've seen. I felt awful when Toboe was killed... |

I watched the subbed episodes by ANBU-Keep - I'm not one for dubs. lol. Therefore, I wouldn't know the difference between the dubs and the fansubs. haha. Interesting thoughts though; I forgot about the flower at the end. And yes, I liked Toboe too... _________________ ~Arie

Oh! I watched that a few times, but the 4th time around, it just wasn't as magical as the first time. still a good watch though. What other Miyazaki films have you watched? "My Neighbor Totoro" is a childhood favorite of mine. Haha.
I would also recommend "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" (Sora o kakeru shoujo) even though it's not a Miyazaki film. _________________ ~Arie

Well, when I was about 10 years old, HBO had a film on called "Warriors of the Wind." Turns out it was a hacked up Miyazaki film: "Nausicaa" -- now released through disney. THAT is one of my favorites. Then when I was in grad school at Montana State "Spirited Away" came through the film festival circut. Very cute film. "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Castle in the Sky" are also very fun--but my favorite are the two with environmental themes: Nausicca and Princess Mononoke.
Since were're on the topic of cartoons: some more of my favorites are "The Secret of NIMH" "The Last Unicorn" and "Watership Down" -- all very scary, dark overtone environmental films from the 70's and 80's (animal testing, endangered species, and well, the bunny movie encompasses just about everything). I used to watch Watership Down over and over as a little girl--and cry my eyes out every time Hazel got shot. No wonder why I turned out the way I did Oh, did I mention "Dot and the Kangaroo" -- yeah, another kiddie torture movie. God that made me cry at the end. _________________ __________________

:O But you managed to watch the original, unedited version, right? Haha. I heard of "The Last Unicorn", but never watched it. As for the other two, this is the first time I've heard of them. lol. _________________ ~Arie

All 3 are great movies and also on my favorites list. The books are awesome too! I definitely recommend reading (or at least watching) them all. _________________
