Broadlands, Hampshire 20-21 June 2009

Hop Farm, Kent 12-13 September 2009

Hi all,

We can't make that day Crying or Very sad . Annette is working in "TUT YORKSHIRE LAD".

She also thought she was working the Sunday too but this has been cancelled. This now free's us up to go to the paws in the park in Yeovil (anybody welcome).

It seems the local authorites know when they are on to a winner with this kind of event, Just a pity they have to hold them all on the same days.

Nevermind I am sure we will all get together again soon to let the pack run riot somewhere. Have a great time and enjoy getting stopped with "WHAT ARE THEY" all day ha ha.

bye for now.

Just to let you know we will not be going to Paws in the Park this weekend as unfortunately Tala has had an accident this week and is now on strict cage rest and under constant supervision.

Hope you have a great time, really wish I was going!

She had a bit of an accident on Wednesday, she was only on her own for an hour but when I got home I found her collapsed in the hall, we have a 4ft dog gate which normally keeps in her the kitchen, (to give Bru some peace!) my best guess is that she tried to jump the gate and her front legs and body got over but somehow her back legs must have got caught in the bars as she has also got a little tear on her leg as well. She will now have the run of downstairs once she has recovered.

I immediately took her to the vets they thought she may have broken her leg or pelvis, but thankfully the damage isn’t that severe. However she has managed to pull her right leg slightly out of the hip socket and has pulled apart the joints on her knee and hock on her left leg which has resulted in fluid in the joint and lots of soft tissue damage. They are hoping that because of her age that a weeks cage rest might resolve the problems.

I think all the agility went to her head and she thought she could jump everything! I have been sleeping (but not getting much sleep!) downstairs with her to make sure she doesn't move too much during the night.

She is not too happy about the cage rest, bless her Sad

Awwwww! Poor girl. That sucks! I hope she recovers well with no lasting damage. Sad

Fortunately she's quite young still and their bones are still quite soft and pliable at this age (to a degree) so I'm sure she'll bounce back in no time. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, these accidents are almost unavoidable... it comes with owning a growing puppy I guess.

I was also a bit worried about Jasper because when he was 4 months old he got "run over" by a bicyclist in the park. (He didn't know the bike wouldn't stop and the guy riding the bike wasn't paying attention.) Anyway, the guy went flying when his bike crashed into Jasper but luckily Jasper mostly went between the 2 wheels so he wasn't badly hurt. He was limping for about 5 minutes but afterward was walking fine. Since it was a Saturday night and he didn't seem to suffer any serious damage I didn't take him to the vet. However, lately it seems that he has a slight limp in one leg after running around a lot. I thought that maybe he'd done some long-term damage to his hip but when I felt down his leg the tender area was around the hock joint. It obviously gave him pain when I touched the back of his lower leg and the area seemed a bit puffy too. However, I think this is due to a more-recent injury, as opposed to months ago when he got mowed down by the bicyclist. I think he must have recently twisted his leg or something while running. He's still really clumsy and when he sprints around it seems that he's constantly getting his legs mixed up lol... he's getting better now though and the limp is almost gone. If nothing else, he's learned to avoid bikes and always steps out of the way if one is coming now. Wink

Anyway, give Tala a big hug from me and a kiss from Jasper. Smile

you think you have done everything you can to make them safe and they still manage to find trouble. You can't wrap them up in cotton wool to protect them.... but I might give it a try!

Lol. I was thinking bubble wrap. Haha.

I hope Tala recovers soon! Poor girl. Sad (and Jasper too! Whatever the cause might have been..)

Claire, so sorry to hear about Tala's accident. What a worry.
We thought we had lost Elkie last week - she ran off on a walk and was gone for an hour and a half - we were imagining all sorts of things. When she finally turned up, covered in fox pooh, she wasn't bothered at all! No more off lead for her until she is 100% on recall on a training leash.
They sure are a worry. Keep us informed re. Tala. Thinking of you both!

Just a reminder that Paws in Park is on 12-13 September at Hop Farm in Kent, as we missed the Broadlands event we are planning on visiting.

Is anyone else planning on going at all?
